After Surgery

You may shower after surgery. Gently remove dressing and use light pressure when showering. Pat dry.

Watch incision site for any redness, swelling, increased pain and/or drainage – it is important that you report any of these symptoms.

If you have a drain in place, keep it clean and dry at the area where it enters the body. The drains should be emptied and recorded daily on a piece of paper. When there is less than 30ml of drainage on a full day, it may be time for the drain to be removed. Keep the drain pinned or taped to keep it from hanging and causing pain or getting caught.

You must wear the surgery bra or sports bra for one week after surgery to keep the swelling down and support the breasts.
