Kidney Transplant Services

UMC and UT Southwestern Medical Center have forged a new partnership in kidney transplantation, bringing the strengths of both facilities together, creating a patient-centric culture, and providing an unsurpassed level of innovative and compassionate care.

Through this new partnership, patients from Lubbock and the surrounding areas will continue to receive pre-transplant treatment, waitlist management and post-transplant care from their established team at UMC, in collaboration with UT Southwestern specialists, in Lubbock. Transplant surgeries will be performed at UT Southwestern’s state-of-the-art facilities in Dallas.

With this partnership our patients receive:

  • Transplant services close to home
  • Texas Tech Physicians
  • Experienced and dedicated transplant team available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Living donor and swap programs

UT Southwestern, one of the most respected transplant centers in the country, has a rich history in kidney transplantation. This began in 1964 with the first kidney transplant performed in Texas. Through its innovations in clinical medicine and dedicated efforts in research and education, UT Southwestern helps shape the field of transplantation. Later this year, UT Southwestern will open the new William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital in the heart of the Dallas Medical District.

At the core of this partnership between UMC and UT Southwestern is a mutual goal to provide the best possible care to kidney transplant patients and their families. Patients will continue their treatment close to home, have their transplant at a facility with some of the best long-term outcomes, then return home for follow-up care and recovery.
