Hyperbaric Oxygen Center

Our Center

Problematic wounds, including non-healing diabetic ulcers, crush injuries and other traumas can all be treated at the UMC Hyperbaric Oxygen Center. You can be confident that you are in the right place to receive very good care. By choosing our center, you will be part of a treatment team that includes you, your physician, and the UMC Hyperbaric Team.

We look forward to helping you achieve your goals!

Our Goals

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a treatment in a pressurized chamber where the patient breathes 100-percent oxygen. Oxygen aids healing by stimulating capillary growth, destroying bacteria and improving circulation. The following conditions benefit from hyperbaric oxygen therapy:

  • Problem wounds
  • Crush injuries
  • Necrotizing soft tissue infections
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Radiation tissue damage
  • Skin grafts and flaps
  • Brown recluse spider bites
  • Diabetic wounds of the lower extremity

Our Commitment

UMC wants our patients to be as comfortable as possible during their sessions in the oxygen chamber, and our technologist and technicians will be on hand throughout the treatment. Once the patient is positioned inside the chamber, the temperature will temporarily rise while pressure is increased. Patients will receive instructions from the technician to help relieve discomfort. During treatment, patients can watch television or videos, sleep or simply relax. Treatments last about two hours.
