On Monday, August 13, the NICU at UMC was recognized and awarded a Level IV Designation by the Texas Department of State Health Services, the highest designation the State of Texas Provides. This means we provide the highest level of, and the most acute, care to neonatal patients. For new parents, it is the assurance that their baby is in very good hands.
“For 38 years, the NICU at UMC has provided medical services for the sickest of newborn babies in the region,” said Dr. Fortunato Perez-Benavides, UMC Neonatologist. “This designation means we are going above and beyond for patients, and to be the first in West Texas to receive this award is an honor. We will continue to strive to improve care through research and learning opportunities that we will pass down by training the next generation of physicians.”
Caring for the tiniest of patients can be the most difficult of tasks; but we are proud to say the NICU at UMC has the medical and surgical staff, knowledge, cutting-edge technology and equipment, nursing services, and facilities to care for them, available in-house 24/7.
Congratulations UMC NICU!!
