CLABSI (Central Line Blood Stream Infection) and CAUIT’s (Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection) are considered hospital acquired infections and UMC will be penalized for these as part of Value Based Purchasing (Healthcare Reform). However, if cultures are obtained within 2 days of admission and are positive, this is considered Present on Admission (POA) and needs to be documented as such. Failure to document these as POA will cause these to be classified as healthcare acquired when they are not.
Any questions and or concerns can be directed to Jodene Satterwhite, Director UMC Infection Prevention and Control at 775-8860.
