Employees Set Donation Record For United Way Campaign

In an outpouring of generosity, UMC employees set a donation record during the 2012 United Way campaign.

Nearly 1,400 employees raised $339,826 for the nonprofit organization, exceeding UMC's campaign goal by almost $35,000. That's the most participating employees since 2008.

"UMC employees have always done a good job with supporting United Way," said John Geist, Vice President of Corporate Compliance. "I think working at UMC you just have a nature of compassion."

On average, employees donated $243.60 during the September/October campaign. And the majority of employees Р 82 percent Р gave at the FairShare level, donating 30 minutes of pay per pay period.

The donations allow United Way to support the community through organizations like The Boys and Girls Club of Lubbock, Lubbock Literacy Center, and the YWCA.

UMC's United Way Committee spearheaded the effort by presenting at general and department staff meetings to spread the word about the campaign. Members included: Susan Bailey; Shana Barnett; Tim Berry; Chris Blazek; Aaron Davis; Brent Delashaw; Missy Dial-High; Michelle Dodgin, Matt Dufilho, Kaki Goodwyn, Bobbye Hrncirik, Frank Jimenez, Pam Lackey, Peter Laverty; Nancy Leal; Colleen Leclair-Smith; Michelle Lee; Sue Lewis; John Lowe; Anita Menefee; Kanice Newton; John Parsons; Hillery Quintanilla; Darin Richards; Josh Setzler; Micky Stutzman; Phillip Waldmann; and Carolyn White.

In addition, Sandra Gonzales, Amanda Tijerina and Patrick Collins served as loaned executives, volunteering their time to speak with several local businesses about the United Way campaign.
