2018 was our 11th straight year in the top decile for employee satisfaction! Our rank of 98th percentile in 2018 was our second-highest score achieved. We also have ranked in the top three of the Best Companies to Work for in Texas for 10 of the past 11 years and have been Number 1 three of the past four years. We remain committed to your engagement and your joy at work. You are the most valuable asset of our health system – it is important you know that every comment is read and every score is evaluated. Beginning February 3, 2019, you are encouraged to speak up, again, and let your voice be heard by completing an Employee Satisfaction Survey. Your opinion matters. You are at the heart of every positive change that happens at UMC.

As we look toward 2019, you have our gratitude for terrific accomplishments in 2018:

  • 40 Years of Service: Special thanks to Irene Torres, Scott O’Banion, Holly Hinckley, Timothy Howell and Sharon Dixon for 40 years of service.
  • Received Magnet designation – the first in the region!
  • Level IV NICU Designation
  • Best Place to Work in Texas Award again in 2018
  • Achieved Women’s Choice Award as 1 of 100 best nationally for patient experience
  • Recognized for Excellence in Patient and Employee Satisfaction by Press Ganey
  • Honored as The Designated Trauma Facility of the Year by the Texas Dept. of State Health Services
  • Successful CAP/FDA (Clinical Lab) and AABB (Transfusion Services) surveys
  • Improved flow, a new observation unit and a large reduction in Left Without Being Seen in the EC
  • Antimicrobial Stewardship Center of Excellence Award
  • Grew to 500 beds, a new Ambulatory Infusion Center, completion of the Business & Technology Center and a state-of the-art – among in the first in the nation – automated laboratory
  • SWCC Radiation Oncology received new state-of-the-art TrueBeam system for treating patients
  • SWCC recertified for Pediatric Children’s Oncology Group
  • SWCC received Lung Center of Excellence certification – Regions First
  • Deliberate efforts “bent the cost curve” for the first time – in challenging areas, pharmacy & OR – special thanks to our doctors who partnered with leadership.
  • RL Solution submissions increased by 15.7% from prior year.
  • UMC Wellness program increased by 15% in active users and a growth in personal challenges by 46%.
  • Lastly, UMC provided a record cost of unfunded care, without a tax increase for the 11th straight year!

You generously gave $430,091.77 to United Way in 2018; and continued strong support of both the Children’s Miracle Network and our educational partner, Brown Elementary. Many served on community boards, food pantries and kitchens, and walked miles to raise money and awareness. Because of you, UMC blesses our region.
