We are honored to have the world’s best employees at UMC! And thanks to your Manage Ups of other employees, we get to recognize so many of the great things you are doing every day. These Manage Ups lead to many of you receiving All-Star awards, Employee of the Month and even Employee of the Year.
That being said, we want to congratulate your vote for 2018 Employee of the Year: Jasmine Vega, BSN, RN in the MICU! She is extremely deserving of this honor. She made a HUGE difference in the lives of a patient’s family, despite the fact that she only cared for this patient for two days.
The patient was on life support, and her birthday was coming up. The family wanted to throw a birthday party before withdrawing care. The patient was a mother of four (her youngest was in our NICU at the time), and her children had not seen her during her two week stay. Jasmine decided to make this day extra special for them and made plans for making keepsakes for them.
She took the patient’s handprints, along with her husband’s and children’s—she even sent paint to the NICU so the baby could participate. She then bought picture frames and put each individual child’s handprint in a frame with their mom’s handprint. She had a coworker do calligraphy reading “Mommy and Me.” She also bought a shadow box and placed the mother’s, father’s and all the children’s handprints in it for their father to keep. The family was emotional and grateful to have something to remember her by.
As if that wasn’t enough, Jasmine also printed heart monitor strips for extended family members and recorded the patient’s heartbeat for them. She truly went above and beyond!
“I was not surprised that Jasmine did this for them,” said Kristi Valdez, Director of the MICU. “She receives so many Manage Ups from her coworkers because she always works with compassion. I know I can depend on her.”
We want to keep being able to share stories like Jasmine’s! Recognize a job well done when you see it by submitting a Manage Up.
