UMC recently had the honor of hosting our first Hero Walk, where many of our own employees lined hallways to honor a pediatric organ donor as she was moved from the pediatric ICU to the operating room. Not only was this special because of the fact it was our first hero walk, but it was even more special as it was for the daughter of one of our employees.
Although these walks have happened throughout the country, this was the first in our region. It was accomplished thanks to our partnership with LifeGift, our in-house LifeGift committee and each of you who took the time from your day to line the halls.
“We have seen families heal just by seeing all of the support at these walks,” said Dagmar Climo, Director of Communications at LifeGift. “They are going through so much with the loss of a loved one, and having all of that support is important. It’s a great way to honor the family and show how important that donor is to so many people.”
We look forward to the possibility of partnering with LifeGift to do many more of these Hero Walks for our patients who become organ donors in the future!
