The UMC Wellness Program has been a total game changer for Joane Falk, Unit Coordinator in Outpatient Surgery!
Joane’s mother was very sick for most of her life. In January 2010, she received a phone call from her sister in Hawaii telling her their mother was not going to make it much longer. She made the trip to Hawaii to spend her mother’s final days with her.
Although the nurse told Joane her mother could hear her but probably wouldn’t speak, she whispered something to Joane: “my boys and dad.” Joane instantly knew she was referring to her great grandsons (Joane’s grandsons) and her husband (Joane’s dad).
“After coming back to Lubbock after my moms’ funeral, I realized I was scared to die and leave my two boys [my grandsons],” Joane said. “They are my world!”
She decided to take charge of her health so she could be there for them.
“The wellness program has made me better myself so I can be around for them; I’m the only grandmother they have left,” Joane said.
She said she is grateful to have a job that cares about her wellbeing enough to offer a program. Her favorite challenge is Breathe Deep, which encourages participants to slow down and breathe deeply twice a day, five days a week, for four weeks.
We would love for you to experience wellness in a way that changes you, just like Joane! Join the UMC Wellness Program today at umc.wellright.com.
