UMC’s Operating Room and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit renovations are well underway, and the progress is remarkable! So far, we have re-done 12 rooms, with patient and employee safety in mind.
Each room has: new screens to put images up while performing surgery, equipment and beds are arranged to make space more efficient, electricity has been made new, as well as new light fixtures, arms and booms to get chords off the floor.
“The renovations have already improved our workflow and efficiency,” said Adonica Dugger, Administrator of Surgical Service. “Because of our renovations, we really are now going to be able to keep OR rooms safer and cleaner, rather than
just prettier. We are at 100 percent utilization every day, so having updated and safer ORs is necessary.”
The OR still has a few more rooms being renovated in its next phase, as well as a new physician lounge and break room for staff. Renovations are estimated to be complete in 2020.
