Josie Cantu has dedicated 40 years of her life to UMC. We are so grateful for her service in our health system! Read below to learn what she loves about UMC and why she continues to work here.
Why did you choose UMC 40 years ago?
Honestly, UMC chose me. UMC pulled me in, in the best way!
In what capacities have you worked during your time here?
I started out in EVS (linens), I just needed any job to get my start! I then went on to be a HUC in multiple departments. After that, I needed something more challenging; I started working weekends at the Heart Hospital to see if I could transition there full time. My director at the time ended up talking some sense into me and I was hired as a unit assistant in the MICU. I have loved it every minute since!
What is your favorite UMC memory?
It’s hard to choose just one! What really had an impact on me was when we started the NICU program. That was really awesome. But my other favorite memory is achieving Magnet Designation. That is such a HUGE accomplishment we should all be proud of!
What is UMC’s Best Quality?
The people. We care about each other and our work. We don’t come here just because it’s a job. We truly love this place. UMC is home.
