Blessing of the Hands

Each year, during Pastoral Care week, our Pastoral Care team serves UMC employees with the “Blessing of the Hands.” This tradition includes a washing of the hands with water, an anointing with oil, and a prayer for each employee who wants to participate. It’s just their way of blessing the hands that go on and care for our community. Last year, roughly 2,000 employees participated.

UMC employees have been receiving the Blessing of the Hands since 2002, as the Pastoral Care department and their volunteers bring the cart to each unit in the hospital. This year, they expanded the Blessing of the Hands to the UMC Business and Technology Center

“When they bless my hands, I feel like I’m going to continue that blessing with the patients that I round on or that I see,” said Rose Carrizales, a Patient Advocate in Service Development. This is meaningful for her because prayer is a significant part of her life.

Thank you Pastoral Care for all you do for UMC Employees!
