We are extremely proud of the hard work and dedication our Radiation Oncology team has! Because of the diligent work between physicians, nurses, radiation therapists, dosimetrists and more, our goal of achieving Radiation Oncology Practice Accreditation (ROPA) is a reality!
UMC has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in radiation oncology as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
“As the only ACR accredited Radiation Oncology Practice in our region, UMC Continues to demonstrate commitment to high quality cancer care, according to the most current standards,” said Sharon Shoulders, Director of the UMC Cancer Center. “Patients receiving radiation therapy treatments at the UMC Cancer Center can rest assured knowing their treatment is the safest and highest quality in the region.”
The ACR is the nation’s oldest and most widely accepted radiation oncology accrediting body, with over 700 accredited sites, and 30 years of accreditation experience. This accreditation is awarded only to facilities meeting specific Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards developed by ACR after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Patient care and treatment, patient safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed.
Great work UMC Radiation Oncology!
