Cardiac Rehab Spotlight

When a patient has a major cardiac event, or surgery associated with the heart, their next step of care is Cardiac Rehabilitation. UMC has a thorough team of exercise experts who get these patients back to real life. This involves individualized treatment made specifically for each patient’s needs.

The focus of Cardiac Rehab is on secondary prevention—in other words, preventing another cardiac event. That's why our therapists take time to educate the patient about risk factors, nutrition, exercise, stress and emotional aspects of heart disease, as well as medications and anatomy and function of the heart.

Patients who attend cardiac rehab are more likely to:

  • Go back to work/hobbies
  • Continue with lifestyle changes
  • 40% less likely to have another event
  • Adhere to exercise
  • Prevent readmission to the hospital

UMC Cardiac Rehab is Nationally Certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). This means our program is recognized as a leader in the field of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation.
