Weight Loss

UMC Health System is proud to partner with Texas Tech Physicians to offer the UMC Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery Center of Excellence. Together, we give you expert physicians, medical resources and care to help you become healthier.

According to statistics from the CDC, more than one-third of all American adults are obese. When left untreated, obesity can potentially result in life-threatening conditions such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and cancer, among others. Many people who are obese or overweight have tried a combination of diets, exercise programs, medications and other interventions without achieving long-term success. However, bariatric surgery has been proven to help overweight individuals lose weight, become healthier, and keep the weight off for the long-term.

Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric surgery, or weight-loss surgery, helps individuals lose weight by reducing the size of the stomach, or by rerouting the digestive system so that they absorb fewer calories from the food they eat. Following surgery, patients are able to eat smaller portion sizes, yet still feel full and satisfied. We will help you navigate through these changes.

We offer multiple types of bariatric surgeries because we know that your care is not one-size-fits-all. Whichever method you choose to achieve long-term health and weight loss, our Bariatric Center of Excellence is the prime choice in receiving your care.
