Pinwheels for Prevention

An average of four children per day become victims of abuse and neglect in Lubbock County. Each April, UMC Children’s Hospital partners with Sondra’s Song to place pinwheels in our courtyard in honor of Child Abuse Prevention month. We believe strongly in raising awareness of child abuse and neglect.

In 2008, Prevent Child Abuse America introduced the pinwheel as the new national symbol for child abuse prevention through Pinwheels for Prevention. National Child Abuse Prevention Month is a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse and neglect, and to promote the social and emotional well-being of children and families, according to the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services.

Please take the time to walk out into our courtyard to see the pinwheels and to think of and pray for the victims affected.
