UMC Children’s Emergency Center

The UMC Children’s Emergency Center is just for kids, with access to more resuscitation and trauma rooms than anywhere in West Texas. UMC is designated as a Level 1 Trauma Center, and UMC Children’s Hospital is a Pediatric Level 2 Trauma Center, with the region’s only verified burn center for children.

The Children’s Emergency Center is home to the region’s most sophisticated trauma recovery facility, earning top designations and awards for its capability of dealing with the most serious children’s trauma cases.

Level 1 Trauma Center and Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center

As a Level I Trauma Center, UMC has a fully trained team of staff members in all areas of the hospital ready to respond and care for trauma patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our partnership with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center ensures our 20-bed Trauma and Surgical ICU is staffed with surgeons to provide surgical care for the injured patient, including:

  • trauma surgeons
  • critical care coverage
  • burn surgeons
  • neurosurgery
  • vascular surgery
  • plastic surgery
  • facial trauma

Verified Burn Center

Burn Center verification provides a true mark of distinction for a burn center. Verification is an indicator to the government, third-party payers, patients, families, and accreditation organizations that the center provides high-quality patient care to burn patients from the time of injury through rehabilitation.
