Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Newborn babies who need intensive medical attention are often admitted into the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The UMC NICU combines technology and trained healthcare professionals to provide specialized care for our patients.

Caring for the tiniest patients can sometimes be the most daunting of tasks, this requires precise skills, complex technology, specialized facilities, and caregivers with a special gift.

UMC’s NICU facilities include a 41-bed Level IV Nursery, a neonatal air transport team, pre-discharge “Rooming In” services/training, and infant CPR training.

UMC is a Level IV NICU

UMC was awarded the NICU Level IV Designation, the highest designation for NICUs available in Texas. This means we provide the highest level of, and the most acute, care to neonatal patients. For new parents, it is the assurance that your baby is in very good hands.
