UMC's partnership with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center allows for Texas Tech's Department of Surgery to provide surgical care for the injured patient (including trauma surgeons, critical care coverage, burn surgeons and neurosurgeons).
UMC Children's Hospital offers many resources for families, such as the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center's Center for Superheroes, a Patient Family Advocacy Council, injury prevention programs and pediatric trauma outreach and education.
An integral part of the recovery process is rehabilitation. UMC provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and social services in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Safe Riders Car Seat Safety Program
More than 700 children a year in Texas are injured due to motor vehicle crashes. And three out of four car seats are installed wrong. Having a car seat, and making sure it's installed properly, can help lessen the chances of injury and death in an accident.
UMC wants to partner with you to protect our children! That's why we provide FREE car seat safety classes for any parent, caregiver, or expecting mother (in the last trimester of pregnancy), complete with a free car seat for those who are in need of one.
Our next car seat safety class is June 25, 2021, at 9AM or 11AM. To register, please call UMC Trauma & Burn Services at 806.775.9315.
A few things to note:
- You must have child's height and weight to register, in order to allow us to give you the correct car seat for your child
- One car seat is provided per family
- Car seats are available for infants weighing at least 5 pounds up to children weighing 65 pounds
- You must have a vehicle with a working lap belt and shoulder belt
- Children are not required to be present during the class
- You must be on time or you will not be admitted
