Pediatric Oncology and Hematology

UMC Cancer Center is committed to serving pediatric blood and cancer disorders.

Our comprehensive team of specialists address every need a child may have during their cancer treatment process. UMC’s Cancer Center care begins with reception, then moves on to nursing, child life specialists, social workers, counselors, pharmacists, and ends with our specialists. No matter who you see along the way, you are in great, capable hands.

We Care Greatly

We have four experts in Pediatric Oncology and Hematology on staff:

  • Dr. Mohamad Al-Rahawan
  • Dr. Erin Barr
  • Dr. Kishor Bhende
  • Dr. Chibuzo O’Suoji

Advanced practice providers assist these four experts in delivering high quality, pediatric patient-centered care.

Our four providers have more than 20 years of combined experience in treating cancer and blood disorders in children. They are affiliated with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) and its cancer center.

The UMC Cancer Center is a member of the Children’s Oncology Group. This is the world’s largest organization for childhood cancer research. Our membership in this group allows us to offer our patients enrollment in clinical trials. In addition, the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center houses research operations that include the South Plains Oncology Consortium, the Texas Cancer Cell Repository, the cell culture drug testing lab for the National Cancer Institute Pediatric Preclinical Testing Program, the COG Cell Line and Xenograft Repository, and the Neuroblastoma Pharmacology Resource Laboratory for COG and the New Approaches to Neuroblastoma Therapy Consortium. This gives our patients access to nationally recognized cancer researchers and early phase clinical trials.

Our goal is to take care of your child as well as your entire family. Choosing care with us means we will manage the disease with you to help decrease anxiety and fear and eliminate suffering from cancer.
