Respiratory Therapy

Respiratory therapists are an integral part of UMC Health System’s health care team. Our registered respiratory care practitioners work with patients to assess respiratory issues, and they manage respiratory equipment. They provide care to patients— 24 hours a day, 365 days a year—who require treatment or diagnosis on health issues affecting the cardiopulmonary system.

Respiratory Therapy Services

Inpatient Respiratory Care

Respiratory therapists at UMC are highly skilled professionals who provide a wide-range of care to help manage multiple breathing problems caused by disease or illness such as pneumonia, asthma, COPD, cardiovascular disorders and problems caused by trauma or accidents.

They provide care in general inpatient care areas as well as in many areas throughout the hospital.

We implement best practice with the use of our “therapist-driven protocols” to evaluate, treat, educate and monitor patients while working in a variety of settings.

UMC respiratory therapists are also a part of a multidisciplinary team which includes physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, dietitians, social services and more.

Outpatient Respiratory Care

In the outpatient setting, pulmonary diagnostic therapists assist our medical staff in the diagnosis and evaluation of lung and other medical conditions with state-of-the-art equipment.
