Ray Cameron

Cameron transferred a patient to my unit. Through the course of Cameron giving 5-star care to the woman, she learned of the patients anxiety over her cat that was left at home without anyone to look after it. The patient had recently moved to a new location so there were keys to be found and codes to be obtained in order to get into the unit. Cameron obtained the keys from the patient in order to go look in on the cat. What Cameron found was that the cat had been crated for a few days, had not had any food or water, and was obviously in distress. Cameron fed and watered the cat and because the patient was going to be hospitalized for a while, she took the cat to her home and provided it with the shelter, food and water that the cat needed. My patient was overwhelmed by the kindness and compassion and the distance that a practical stranger would go to help in such circumstances. Her happiness was expressed in tears and the room was filled with gratitude and love when Cameron updated her on the situation. We should all be so lucky to have such compassion shown to us when we are at our neediest and have nowhere to turn. I’d go as far to say that the stress relief and love shown by Cameron to this patient was worth the amount of medical cure we were able to afford the patient.

We are proud to honor Cameron Ray, BSN, RN as our June 2020 DAISY Award Recipient!
