At UMC, we encourage our hip and knee replacement patients to take part in Joint Mobility Camp. This program helps patients progress through the joint replacement experience in a group setting—completing exercises, practicing transfers and having
the camaraderie of fellow joint replacement patients. Our Joint Mobility Camp is a team approach to caring for our total joint patients. Our team includes orthopaedic surgeons, joint coordinator, specially trained nurses and physical and occupational
therapists.
Patients begin joint mobility camp the day after surgery. On average they will participate in one to two days of group therapy and rehabilitation. A family member or friend is encouraged to attend mobility camp with their loved one, so they have a partner
in the process and have ample assistance upon returning home.
Joint Mobility participants will also take part in a free pre-operative Joint Replacement Education Class offered by UMC in close collaboration with Texas Tech Physicians Orthopaedic Surgeons.
