We want to take a moment to, once again, recap news and happenings in the community and at UMC, in the midst of this COVID-19 pandemic. We are defying odds in this fight, and continue to be among the first in many ways.
Park and Pray
Thank you to all who organized, volunteered, shared and attended UMC Park and Pray end of April—the first event of its kind in Lubbock. What a touching way to show support for #umcHeroes, other healthcare workers, first responders and the community.
Celebrations
Patient discharged
On Friday, May 8, we were able to discharge a COVID patient who was in MICU for 40 days. He is in a rehab facility to finish his recovery… a HUGE victory for us, the patient and his family! Staff held a big celebration as he was wheeled out.
Jodey Arrington visits UMC
Congressman Jodey Arrington visited UMC during Nurses Week to recognize nurses with a plaque and flag from Capitol Hill and to congratulate us on officially seeing over 6,000 cars in our COVID-19 Drive-Up Screening.
Flyovers
The 149th Fighter Wing, The “Gunfighters”, a squadron of Texas Air National Guard F-16 fighter jets flew over Lubbock Monday, May 11, in support of local hospitals, health care providers, and caregivers. And on May 15, the 337th Test and Evaluation Squadron at Dyess AFB B-1 flew over UMC to salute all Lubbock care givers and first responders!
UMC Heroes
As if that’s not enough, we continue to be showered by protective gear, food donations, monetary donations and more, from community heroes! Thank you for your continued dedication to our community. They recognize your hard work on the front line.
