Structural Heart Program

UMC strives to provide a multidisciplinary approach in our patients’ care, offering access to the most advanced and optimal care for their cardiac needs. The UMC Structural Heart Program is proud to offer minimally invasive options including Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) and Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) closure used to close a hole in the heart that should have closed during infancy.

UMC Health System’s Structural Heart Program, lead by Dr. Mac Ansari, is the region’s only advanced structural heart program.

Transcatheteraortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)

TAVR, a minimally invasive procedure, repairs the valve without removing the damaged valve. Similar to a stent placed in an artery, the TAVR approach delivers a replacement valve that pushes the old valve out of the way so the tissue in the replacement valve can take over regulating blood flow.

Treatment for mitral regurgitation

Mitral regurgitation is a condition in which the mitral valve fails to close properly. This causes blood to leak backward inside your heart. Left untreated, it can lead to an enlarged heart or heart failure.
