UMC Heroes are Made Here

Jun 9th, 2020 | Latest News

This summer, we have the privilege of welcoming the first class of Emergency Medicine Residents at UMC and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. This is MAJOR and a first in our region!

Having an Emergency Medicine Residency program wouldn’t be possible without a true partnership with Texas Tech School of Medicine, and it will help us enhance the quality of emergency care throughout West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. This residency program will improve emergency care with:

  • The provision of board-certified, residency-trained emergency physicians
  • Access to a larger number of emergency-specific care providers
  • Care standardized in accordance with the most up-to-date information
  • Patients will receive even more advanced treatment and technologies

Having a team of Emergency Medicine Residents will also help us introduce new techniques for Pediatric emergency medicine.

“There are many benefits UMC has, being a teaching hospital,” said Dr. James Morris, Program Director, “and emergency medicine was missing those benefits before. Our hope is that by having this program, patients will be receiving the most up-to-date and advanced treatment. We look forward to all of the new horizons this program will bring to patients in the UMC EC.”

Our first class of the newest UMC Heroes officially begins July 1. Keep checking back right here each month to read spotlights on each of these residents!
