The American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge is a free, temporary facility that offers a home away from home for our out-of-town patients and their spouses/caregivers. The Hope Lodge in Lubbock opened in 2010, and it was the first one in Texas.
Many patients must travel to UMC Southwest Cancer Center from outside of Lubbock in order to receive the very best cancer care. This can put an added emotional and financial burden on these patients. We believe that after a patient from out of town is diagnosed with cancer, they should not be bogged down with the stress of traveling or financially providing for lodging. The Hope Lodge eliminates those burdens and makes the goal of surviving cancer easier.
Families across the nation save millions of dollars in hotel costs each year by staying at the 22 Hope Lodges in 16 states. We are so glad we have the privilege of providing this service to our patients.
