“Dr. Gray is everything you need in an emergency center physician! He is attentive, very informative and has a way of making you feel at peace while he is caring for you. He is a joy to be around, and is definitely doing what he is meant to do.”
Award Type: Spirit of Service
Tandi Wagner – May 2020 – Employee of the Month
“Tandi truly cares for patients in all aspects! While caring for a patient, she learned he was from Amarillo, was homeless and would soon be discharged (the patient would go home via bus). Tandi also learned the patient didn’t have shoes and was in need of an antifungal cream for his feet. She and her husband bought him both items and ended up driving him to Amarillo upon discharge. They keep in touch with him, and he is no longer homeless and is doing great. Thank you for doing more than just your task at hand, Tandi! “
Holly Lewis – April 2020 – Housing Staff of the Month
“Dr. Lewis played an integral role in helping a patient with suspected colon cancer. He had been trying to have a colonoscopy for 5 years but couldn’t handle prep. Dr. Lewis swooped in to save the day by suggesting a procedure through the nose. It worked, and the patient didn’t have colon cancer!”
Ambir Mirza – April 2020 – Attending of the Month
“Dr. Mirza is not only compassionate with patients, but also with staff. When we had a patient, who was being tested for COVID-19, she was our advocate—listening to our concerns and making sure we stayed safe. We appreciate you!”
Alex Monje – April 2020 – Employee of the Month
“Alex has quietly been assisting a very ill co-worker: he has fixed multiple things in her home, even rebuilt her carport. She does not have family close by and has lost some independence due to the lack of stamina caused by her multiple illnesses. Alex is a very generous and humble person whose service has extended past the wall of this facility!”
Sean Simpson – February 2020 – House Staff of the Month
“Sean treats everyone with respect and works hard, never complains, and goes out of his way to help others. Dependable and fun to work with, he ensures that his patients receive the best care possible and is always willing to go the extra mile.”
Ebtesam Islam – February 2020 – Attending of the Month
“When a patient had a heart attack in the MICU, Dr. Islam maintained control of the situation while managing a large team of internal medicine residents. She ensured the residents assisted during compressions, running the defibrillator, and having input on interventions without delaying care for the patient.”
Estella Mireles – February 2020 – Employee of of the Month
“On Christmas morning, when my hair was shedding like a dog because of my chemotherapy, Estella went out of her way to find me clippers to cut off the rest of my hair. As Estella was preparing me for a shower, I asked her if she would shave my head and she said yes. There were lots of tears in that moment, but I was grateful to have someone to talk to and hold my hand.”
Shawn Reeves – March 2020 – Advanced Practice Professional of the Quarter
“On a Saturday, after he had already left the hospital, Shawn returned to do an ultrasound-guided peripheral IV for a pediatric patient in the EC. His kindness in returning to the EC prevented failed procedure attempts, reducing the mom’s anxiety for her child.”
Joshua Crane – March 2020 – House Staff of the Month
“Dr. Crane was on the unit wanting to do a thoracentesis on a patient. While he was there, the patient’s lunch was delivered and the nurse was tending to another patient.
Dr. Crane kindly assisted the patient with
his food because of his limited vision.”
Jordan Simpson – March 2020 – Attending of the Month
“I appreciate Dr. Simpson’s timely communication and team work to provide the best care and appropriate discharge planning! After a hip surgery he advocated for one of his patients to have a sacral cushion to prevent future pressure sores. He goes above and beyond for all his patients.”
Elizabeth Middleton – March 2020 – Employee of the Month
“Elizabeth went above and beyond to help
one of her patients who was about to be
evicted from his home. On two of her days
off, she took this gentleman around town to help him sort his affairs, including food vouchers, help with his landlord and more.”
